Friday Five: 5 Things I Will NOT Miss About Being Pregnant

As I near the end of my pregnancy (Baby Fish is still hanging out inside of me!), I've been pretty anxious and excited about NOT being pregnant anymore.  Don't get me wrong, I've had a pretty easy go of things.  I haven't really minded being pregnant, but over the last few weeks, I have become increasingly ready to get back to "normal."  I started thinking about things I really WON'T miss about being pregnant and thought I'd share them with you today!

I'm linking up with Courtney, Cynthia, and Mar for the Friday Five link-up!  Their theme today is Five "Good" Things (since it's Good Friday, after all!), and I think this post can fall under that topic :)

1. I WILL NOT miss...all of the attention.
I have never felt more "noticed" in my life than when I'm pregnant!  Sure, some of the attention has been nice (more people have held the door for me, I did get two free donuts at Dunkin', etc.), but sometimes it's a little overwhelming!

All people talk to me about now-a-days is the baby, and I've had so many random strangers come up and touch my belly.  I'm pretty ready to get back to being a little more invisible and "normal", as well as having casual conversations about things other than being pregnant.
2. I WILL NOT miss...having an excuse to eat whatever/be lazy.
I'm sure this sounds really weird to most people.  You're probably thinking, "isn't having an excuse to eat anything you want and sit around a good thing??"  Well, I've certainly used this free pass over the last month or two, and surprisingly, I really haven't liked the results!!!

Sure, it's been fun to eat more sweets, but I've just felt a lot more sluggish and tired lately.  A break from exercising has made my afternoons a lot less jam-packed, but I've gained weight in my face, arms, and legs that I wasn't gaining earlier on in my pregnancy.  Plus, I've actually missed exercising!  I cannot WAIT to get back to running and returning to my gym classes (when I'm cleared, of course).

While I know I could choose not use to it as an excuse, I have.  I'm looking forward to not having that crutch to lean on when trying to make healthy choices.

3. I WILL NOT miss...the swollen feet, ankles, and fingers.

I've missed wearing my rings.  I've missed being able to sit however I want in a chair or on the couch.  I cannot wait until my feet, ankles, and fingers go back to their normal size!!

4. I WILL NOT miss...being unable to turn, bend down, or get out of a chair properly.

I've had a hard time with this because I'm a pretty independent person.  I had to get Joe to buckle my shoes for his graduation because I couldn't bend down far enough, and I really didn't like it!  I've had to rely on passengers (when I have them) to check my blind spot while driving because it's so hard to turn.  Getting up from the couch or a low-sitting chair is embarrassing because it's not so easy to do!  I'm ready to be "independent" and able to do the simple things I'm used to doing with ease again!!

5. I WILL NOT miss...the uncertainty relating to pregnancy.

I've heard many stories about people being put on bed rest or babies coming prematurely.  I've also heard about babies coming 2 weeks late.  Throughout the pregnancy, I haven't enjoyed the "waiting game"--am I going to be put on bed rest?  Is the baby going to come early?  When is this baby finally going to come?  As someone who likes to know what to expect, I have not enjoyed all of the uncertainty.  While I know there are many uncertain things with a newborn, I think I'll feel a little more in control of that situation than the whole pregnancy thing.
And a bonus to end on a really positive note...

6. I WILL NOT miss...not knowing my baby!
Sure, I've felt him/her move around for quite a while, but I don't know the gender and I don't know what he/she looks like!  While we've gotten some sneak peeks thanks to ultrasound images, I'm so looking forward to meeting Baby Fish that I really won't miss not "knowing" him/her.  I'm also so excited to find out if it's a boy or a girl!

So, those are some things I will not miss about being pregnant.  Baby Fish, you are more than welcome to join us in this world whenever you want (preferably sooner rather than later)!!  We're excitedly anxious to have you, and mommy is excited to not be pregnant anymore :)

Question for you: Moms or moms-to-be: what do you/will you NOT miss about being pregnant?  Everyone else: What are you NOT missing right now?

  1. The uncertainty was the biggest issue I had with being pregnant! I'm a planner and I hate not knowing what to expect. I'm also very impatient in general, so having to wait to meet my babies was hard too! Best wishes on your new arrival! We let the gender of our first be a surprise and it was really exciting to find out at the delivery!

  2. I totally feel you on ALL of these!! I think the thing I will NOT miss the most about being pregnant is just constantly feeling like I can't do things anymore. I'm such an independent person too, and I hate not being able or allowed to do simple tasks! But I'm with you on the excuse thing - I've definitely found myself slacking a little bit more in the last few weeks or so, which is not good!

    1. I also don't like when people don't let you do stuff...I've had people be like "no, let me carry that for you." Ummm, it's my sweatshirt. I think I can handle it! LOL

  3. I will not miss my maternity clothes!! I can't WAIT to be able to wear "regular" clothes again. I will also not miss my swollen feet :(

  5. While it has been ummmm 19 years since I've been pregnant I do remember all of those issues. Everything will work out and in no time, you'll blink and that sweet baby will be a year old and your gonna look back and say where did all this time go! Have a great weekend!

    1. I'm sure! The pregnancy went by fast, so I can only imagine when the baby is actually here!

  6. I've never understood why it's okay for someone to put their hand on the belly of a complete stranger - no mater the circumstances. Here's hoping the days past swiftly until Baby Fish decides to make his/her debut!

  7. I have to say that I never liked being pregnant. I was so uncomfortable. But I did like feeling the babies kick. I missed that...

  8. I loved being pregnant and would love to have another baby, but it's not happening. Two crazy boys is enough for us. One thing I don't miss is the constant trips to the bathroom (even though I visit it a lot now with all the water I try to drink).
