When I got home yesterday, the news of the shooting at the Navy Yard devastated me. I hate that people have to go through a tragedy like this again. My heart breaks for the victims, the injured, the employees of that building who fled in fear, and the families affected by this tragedy. I'm happy to learn that friends of mine who work in the building are safe, but I just hate that something like this has happened once again.
Please be in prayer for everyone affected by this tragedy. I also pray that something will be done to prevent such senseless acts of violence that keep people from feeling safe at school and work.
Ok, on to the actual post...today, I have some news to share with y'all! I've been very vague lately about something going on in my life. Well, I can finally tell you!
I have accepted a new position as a math coach in the school district I teach in! Today is actually my last day in the classroom, and I start my new job on Wednesday.
For those of you who don't know, a math coach works with teachers to help improve student achievement at the school level. There are variety of different things that I will do to accomplish this goal, but if you want a good idea of what my position will entail, check out this blog post. She does a great job of outlining a math coach's roles and responsibilities!
It's been a tough few weeks between letting everyone know about the position, actually switching teaching assignments (and classrooms) with another teacher until I left, dealing with people's emotions over this decision (not always directed at me), and telling two sets of students I would no longer be their teacher. I'm sad that I won't be in front of the students every day, but I am looking forward to helping other teachers reach their students. If I think about it that way, I will be able to impact almost all of the students in the whole school!
I've been relying on God a lot over the last few weeks to make sure that this was the right decision. I've actually received a lot of confirmation that this is the right path for me, and I feel encouraged and energized by that! I look forward to taking this next step in my career.
Question for you: Anything new going on in your life?
That is such an awesome new opportunity for you!! It's going to teach you so much and I'm sure the students you affect will greatly appreciate it. Math is tough. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amanda! I think it's going to be great (as far as I've seen!)!
DeleteThat is so cool! I had no idea that was even a position, but wow! You will rock this!
