Weekend + SBBC Week 2 Recap

Hey, everyone!  It's back to work today, and that was HARD to do this morning.  I hope your day got off to a better start than mine did.

This weekend, I was up in Washington, DC with Joe and my in-laws.  I'll do a full recap of our trip, but here's a brief overview of what we did from Friday night on (check out some photos from the trip in my post from Saturday):
-had dinner on Friday with my aunt, uncle, mom, and dad.  Very nice to see them, and everyone had a lot of fun catching up!
-went to the National Museum of Crime and Punishment.  This was one of the museums Mimi (Joe's mom) wanted to go to, and we had a good time with the interactive exhibits!
-ate dinner on Saturday with my family, Joe's cousins and second cousins.  Lots of fun meeting the second cousins, and lots of good food!
-helped celebrate my good friend Farrah's birthday!!  I was so excited to get to see her, and it just worked out perfectly that she was near the restaurant we ate at on Saturday.
-flew home on Sunday.  I went to hot yoga once I got back, did some errands, unpacked, and relaxed with Joe.  It's nice to be back, and I think someone is excited we're home, too.
Workouts
As I mentioned before, I wanted to keep up with my workouts while traveling to continue doing well with the Spring Bootie Buster Challenge.  It's hard to do, but I actually did a great job this time!  It helps that my sister-in-law Katherine wanted to work out, too, so we made it a priority almost every day.
Monday-Bootcamp class with Katherine's workout group + ultimate frisbee afterward (70 minutes=7 points)
Tuesday-2.6 mile run + cooldown walk with Katherine (30 minutes=3 points)
Wednesday-15 minutes run + 15 minute Nike Training Club app workout.  We were flying out in the afternoon, so I knew I'd have to get the workout in early in the day.  I had to improvise with some of the equipment needed, but it was nice to move before sitting on a plane! (30 minutes=3 points)
Thursday-Walking around DC (about 40 minutes of true walking) + basketball workout with Katherine (30 minutes of activity).  Katherine's trainer made a workout to go along with any basketball game (example: missed foul shot=3 burpees), and we followed along as she watched the Florida vs. UCLA basketball game. (8 points total)

Friday-Walking around DC (about 40 minutes of true walking=4 points)
Saturday-rest day
Sunday-Bikram yoga class once we got back home.  Nice to sweat out those toxins I ingested during the trip! (90 minutes=9 points)

Total SBBC activity points: 35
Reaching water total days: 6
Freggie Total days: 3
Bonus points-there was a bonus challenge of drinking a glass of water within the first hour of waking up from Tuesday through Sunday.  I did this each of those days, so I earned 6 bonus points!
Total Points for the week: 50 (up from last week's 19)

Pretty good week this week!  I hope to continue to get in a lot of activity this week as I normalize my schedule and follow my half marathon training plan.  I need to get on those long runs!

Question for you: What do you do to work out while traveling?

Silent Saturday: Washington DC fun

Sorry I've been neglecting the blog, everyone!  We've had some jam-packed day here in the Nation's Capitol, and I also didn't bring a laptop.  But, I'm going to give y'all a little taste of our trip so far before we head out for our last day in DC, Silent Saturday style--just pictures, no captions.
(I can't format these pictures of my iPad, so sorry for the ugly layout,  I'll fix them when I get home on Sunday)

WIAW #28: Gainesville Eats

How's it going, y'all?  We are getting ready to head to the airport for our trip to DC!  Joe, his sister Katherine, his mom Mimi, and I are heading up there for five days.  The goal was to see the cherry blossoms, but it appears we will miss them due to the cold winter!  It's ok, though, because we have a lot of fun things planned, as well as lots of family on both sides to see.  It'll be fun!

Before I head out, I wanted to participate in the What I Ate Wednesday blogger party.
Today, we will see what I ate on Tuesday while hanging around Gainesville.  It was a chill day, but I was really looking to get in my 7-9 freggie servings for the Spring Bootie Buster Challenge.  It's hard for me to do when I'm away from home, but let's see how I did this time!  As always, thanks to Jenn for the WIAW link up.  Head over to her blog Peas and Crayons (with a guest post today from Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli) for more WIAW posts!

Breakfast

I got the freggies going early with a sliced apple on the side of my maple and brown sugar instant oatmeal.  I'd never had this flavor before, and it was a good one!  I also drank a whole water bottle (16 ounces) within an hour of waking up as a bonus challenge for SBBC this week!

Morning Snack

I needed some coffee (serious caffeine addict here, must work on this!), so I headed to Starbucks for a vanilla macchiato.  If you haven't tried it, it's a winner!  I also got a cheese danish to snack on, since everything else is off limits for Lent.  It was really good, so I didn't miss the lemon pound cake at all!

Lunch

I picked Joe up from shadowing a chiropractor, and we went to one of Gainesville's hidden treasures, Mac's Drive-In.  It's a cash only place, and Joe and I only had a $10 bill between the two of us.  I let him get a side and a drink, while I got a BLT sandwich and ate a bunch of baby carrots I had in the fridge at Katherine's house.  Very yummy little lunch!

Afternoon Snack

Lunch didn't hold me over too long, so I got a 100-calorie bag of kettle corn and sliced half a green pepper for a snack.  Yummy!

Dinner
Joe and I went to dinner with his dad and stepmom at Applebee's!  I didn't get any pictures, but I had some spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer (so good!) and then their Fiesta Chicken Chopped Salad.  I got it without the spicy dressing and used the strawberry vinaigrette instead.  It was a really good salad, and I had just enough left over for a side salad with today's lunch!

Workout
Had to use the photo editor on my phone, sorry for the messed-up looking picture!
After dinner,  Katherine and I went on a 2.6 mile run around her neighborhood.  I did about 10 minutes of stretching when we got back.  It was nice to have a running buddy for once!

Freggie Count:  I did get in my 7 servings!  Woohoo!  It really helped that we brought some fruits and veggies from home, as well as ordering a salad for dinner.  Still doable while on the road!

Question for you: How do you stick to eating healthy while out of your normal routine?

Weekend and SBBC Week 1 Recap

Hey, everyone!  It's Tuesday already?!?  I'm losing track of days due to Spring Break (last time I'll mention it, not trying to rub it in!).  Plus, we are in Gainesville right now before heading up to Washington, DC tomorrow, so I'm out of my normal routine.

Ok, let's talk about the weekend.

Friday
I started my day by watching some How I Met Your Mother Season 9 online.  I can't believe I only have 7 episodes left in the series!

I then ran some errands before heading to see Divergent!  I was so excited for the movie, but I gotta say, I was disappointed.  They took some liberties with movie, and I don't think it added much to the story.  Plus, I thought that Shaileen Wooley didn't quite play Tris' character as it was described in the book.  However, I will still probably go see the other movies.  Hopefully they'll be a little better!

When Joe came back from his Boards exams, I had some dinner ready for him: Parmesan and Sage Crusted Pork Chops!  Yum!  We then watched Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  Now, THIS movie I enjoyed!  Joe wasn't a fan since it was more of a set-up-for-the-next movie, but I thought it was great!  Stayed true to the book, and I LOVED this arena for the games!

Saturday
Joe finished up his Boards in the morning, while I took it easy in the morning.  We are lunch together, then headed to the beach for a little bit.
An interesting way to read!

We then met up with Joe's friend from high school Brent for some Mexican food and some catch-up time.

After that, we spent the rest of the afternoon and evening with some of Joe's friends from class.  They were celebrating the end of Part 2 boards with a cook out, and we had a lot of fun enjoying the nice weather, some summery beverages, and great company!  Lots of fun!

Sunday
I started Sunday off with a 5k race-the Houligan's sAin't Patty's Day Sandpiper 5k, put on by the Daytona Beach Track Club.
I was feeling a little off after the sangria from the night before, so the race didn't go as I wanted it to.
Still nice to get out there and run a 5k--I haven't done that since last St. Patty's!  Will post a full race recap soon.

Next up, Joe and I packed up for the week before heading to Orlando for an Atlanta Braves spring training game!  The Braves won, and Joe and I had a great time watching our team!!
We finished the day driving to Gainesville and spending the evening with Joe'ss fiend from high school Noah.  Great company, and a nice relaxing evening!

Spring Bootie Buster Challenge Week 1
This past week was the first week of the Spring Bootie Buster Challenge.  You earn points for every 10 minutes of activity, plus 1 point for drinking 64+ ounces of water each day and 1 point for eating 7-9 servings of fruits and veggies (freggies as we call them).
Let's look at the workouts from this week.
Monday-BodyPump Class (60 mins=6 points)
Tuesday-3ish mile run, my phone died so I don't know the exact distance! (30 mins=3 points)
Wednesday-things got a little crazy, and I missed my workout.
Thursday-rest lazy day
Friday-planned rest day
Saturday-lazy day
Sunday-5k run (31mins=3 points)

I only got in 2 days of freggies (fruits + veggies), but I did drink 64+ ounces of water on 5 of the 7 days.
Total Points: 19

Goal for next week: Being out of my routine usually makes it hard for me to stick with my workouts.  I want to stick to my half marathon training plan by getting in my 3 runs this week and at least 2 stength training workouts.  May be tough while traveling, but I'm prepared!

Question for you: What did you do this weekend? What's a goal you have this week?

Fun Facts Friday (Spring Break Edition)

Good morning afternoon everyone!  I've been trying to get my blog posts up at a consistent time each morning, but that didn't happen today.  Spring Break has officially begun, and I've been taking it easy so far.  But, it's finally time to get up and moving, and this post was first on the agenda!

1. Joe is currently taking Part 2 of his chiropractic boards!  He passed Part 1 with flying colors in September, so I think he'll be fine.  Send prayers and positive thoughts to him and his classmates today and tomorrow!
2.  I'm going to see a movie by myself today!  Divergent comes out today, and I CAN'T WAIT to go see it!  Joe isn't really that interested, so while he takes his Boards, I figured I could go see it.
I actually enjoy going to movies by myself.  Plus, I'm sure the theater will be packed, and it's always easier to find one seat than two together :)

3. In planning for our trip to DC, I've been keeping up with the weather.  Something popped up on there that has me a little nervous!
It's supposed to snow the day before we arrive (and be a little rainy and cool while we're there).  Definitely going to have to keep an eye on that.

4.  Last night, I started Spring Break relaxing with some wine, Grey's Anatomy, Glee, and a cuddle buddy!
I gotta say, the 100th episode of Glee was really good!  Kristin Chenoweth and Gwenyth Paltrow make me so happy when they're on that show.  Plus, all the original cast members in one place made me wish for them all to be back in the glee club together.

5.  My brother's wedding invitation arrived in the mail this week!  I can't believe it's about two months away!
I had to miss Sara's bachelorette party this weekend, but I'm looking forward to rest of the wedding festivities in May.

6.  I started a new Bible study this week!  While I joined in a little late and didn't to the reading for this week's discussion, I can tell this is going to be a great study.  I'm going to be doing a separate post about Wednesday's topic, but let's just say for now that I KNOW I was supposed to be there that night. God is pretty amazing in the way he works, and there was a clear purpose for me going to the meeting (even though I almost decided not to about 15 minutes before).
Well, that's all I got for now!  Time to run some errands before the movie :)  Have a great Friday, everyone!

Question for you: Are you planning to see Divergent?  How do you/did you spend your Spring Break days?  Thoughts on Glee/Grey's Anatomy this week?

WIAW #27: Freggie-Focused

Not to rub it in or anything, but at 2:45 today, Spring Break (un)officially begins!  All that's left in my work week is a teacher duty day on Thursday, then I am home free for a week.  If you can't tell, I'm excited about having some time off!

Not only does Spring Break begin today, but it's also time for...

Thanks, as always, to Jenn for hosting the WIAW party!  Head over to her blog to check out what WIAW is all about, and stop by some other blogs and see what they're eating.

Today, we'll take a look at Tuesday's eats.  With the beginning of the Spring Bootie Buster Challenge comes time for me to focus on getting in 7-9 servings of fruits and veggies.  In the challenge groups, we call fruits + veggies FREGGIES!  Let's see how I did getting in 7-9 freggies.

Breakfast
I had my usual bowl of cereal.  I'm still on the Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch--it's so good!

Morning Snack #1
I had some Lemon Chobani.  Perfect mid-morning snack with protein, a little bit of sweetness, and a lot of deliciousness!

Morning Snack #2
I didn't take a picture of it, but I had an apple.  My stomach was really rumbling with about 1.5 hours until lunch, but the apple did the good of tying me over.

Lunch
Lunch was freggie-ful, with a spinach salad topped with tomato, onion, cucumber, and a whole avocado.  I also had some baby carrots and grapes.

Afternoon Snack #1
They were out of the Nature Valley Protein bars this week, so I went generic.  Surprisingly, I think these actually taste a little better!

Afternoon Snack #2
I had to watch a webinar yesterday, and again, my stomach was growling with about 2 hours to go before dinner.  I had a handful of these Cheeto puffs.  They seemed to be better for you since they were the "simply" kind, but who knows :)  The white cheddar flavor was quite tasty!

Dinner
We had some shrimp pasta for dinner Tuesday night.  This was one of the meals that came from the Insanity diet we did back in October, and every now and then I'll make it to shake up the protein we eat.  All it is is garden rotini, a handful or two of boiled shrimp, and some marinara sauce.  I topped mine with some parmesan cheese.  Simple, tasty little meal!

Evening Snack
I had another handful of Cheetos just before my shower.  I guess the pasta didn't keep me full as long as I thought it would!

Freggie Count: 7.  My freggie-ful lunch really helped with this, as I didn't have any veggies on the side with dinner.  Good stuff!

Workout
I got in a really good 3-mile run after dinner.  It's so nice to be able to run outside later on in the day.  Thanks, Daylight Saving Time!  My phone died 2 miles in, so this is just an estimate on the time and the total distance.

Question for you: What's your favorite way to up your fruits + veggies count?
Mine is definitely a veggie-packed salad for lunch or a fruit-filled smoothie as a snack/post-workout recovery!

Lake Minneola Half Marathon Training Plan

Good morning!  Do you feel inspired for a great week after yesterday's Insta-spriation?  I sure do :)  I'm also pretty excited because one of my favorite shows is back!
I LOVE to watch Dancing with the Stars!  I also realize that may make me a 40-year-old woman, but I'm totally ok with it.  I just love to watch the dancing (and pretend that I can do all of the moves).  Anyone else catch the premiere last night?  My favorite is Danica McKellar, especially after I realized that she writes the Math Doesn't Suck books for girls.  Math Nerds Unite!

As you may know from my What I'm Running post last week, I have another half marathon coming up in a few weeks!
The Lake Minneola Half Marathon is just 6 weeks away!  Yikes!  I started thinking about training right after the Disney Princess Half but haven't been keeping to a plan.  So, I thought if I posted my training plan that I'd start getting my butt in to gear!

My main goal for this race is to PR and do so without injury.  I noticed that my training before the Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon, my current PR, including strength training and more speed work.  I'm working to incorporate more of that into this training plan.

A few things to note before I share my plan:
-I am NOT a running coach or a personal trainer.  Please consult a professional before you start any sort of running or exercise plan of your own!
-I already have a good running base going in to this half marathon training, having run two half marathons within the last month.
This was a really tricky training plan to create because of the different races I already had scheduled,  Plus, it's only 6 weeks away.  Yeah...should have made this a few weeks ago!

ANYWAY, I got this training plan off to a great start by heading to BodyPump on Monday evening.
I'm also planning on getting my run in right after work today with a little Treadmill Tuesday!  I may also head to hot yoga, but we'll see how it goes.

Question for you: Who is your Dancing with the Stars favorite? What do you focus on when training for races?  How do you create a training plan?
